Job Purpose:
The Neuroscience Program in the Department of Psychology at Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA is searching for an engaging, equity-minded teacher-scholar to join our teaching-centered department in full-time, fixed-term Lecturer-AT position beginning August 16, 2025. The position is one-year non-tenure-track teaching faculty appointment with the possibility of reappointment based on program and departmental needs. We are looking for a colleague broadly trained in neuroscience with particular strengths in cellular/molecular neurophysiology and/or neuroanatomy, although individuals with expertise in all areas of interest are welcome to apply. We are committed to pursuing excellence in teaching by creating engaging, inclusive learning environments for undergraduate students, and are looking for candidates who share that commitment. Teaching responsibilities will be matched to candidates' preparation and interests, according to program and department needs. A typical set of courses for a semester could include one of the introductory neuroscience courses (NEUR 201 Introduction to Neuroscience, for Neuroscience majors or PSYCH 300 Biological Psychology, for Psychology majors), NEUR 399 Scientific Communications, and a combination of two upper division requirements/electives within the Neuroscience program (HPHY 453 Neuroanatomy, HPHY 451 Systems Neuroscience, BIOL 376 Cellular Neurophysiology, or special topics courses determined by area of expertise). The teaching load will be the equivalent of 24 credits per year--- typically 4 lecture courses a semester (12 contact hours per week). Ideal candidates will have experience teaching undergraduates from a variety of backgrounds and identities, including those historically marginalized in the sciences (e.g., first-generation students, students from low-income families, students of color, LGBTQ+ students, students with disabilities). This Lecturer position will also take on additional responsibilities, including advising students, supporting the department and university through service, and engaging in professional activities that that inform their teaching, enhance student educational experience, and help them to remain current in their field of neuroscience. In addition to quality teaching and service, it is expected that the Lecturer will maintain standards of professionalism as outline in the Gonzaga Faculty Handbook.
Essential Functions:
- Teach the equivalent of 12 credit hours of courses each semester, typically 4 lectures sections. Courses will include a mixture of introductory-level, upper-division required and elective neuroscience lecture courses.
- Provide academic and career advising and mentoring to 15 - 25 undergraduate students per year.
- Support the Neuroscience program, Psychology department, university, and discipline through service and other forms of academic citizenship.
- Engage in professional activities that that inform teaching, enhance student experience, and help Lecturer to remain current in their field of neuroscience.
