The Department of Human Sciences at Sam Houston State University (SHSU) invites applications from qualified candidates for a tenure-track 9-month appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor in Interior Design and Program Coordinator beginning in August 2025.
The Department of Human Sciences is one of four academic units in the College of Health Sciences, and the Interior Design program is one of three and the largest undergraduate programs in the department with 105 students. The department offers a B.S., B.A., and minor in Interior Design, and holds accreditation from the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA) and the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD).
The department is seeking a visionary and inspirational leader to drive the future direction of the interior design program with collaboration and innovative approaches to inspire the next generation of design professionals.
This candidate will direct efforts as the Program Coordinator for theCIDA-Accredited program in Interior Design.
Responsibilities of the position include: Teaches undergraduate courses at all levels of the Interior Design program. Oversees the program accreditation processes and reviews and contributing to ongoing program evaluation and improvement. Maintains scholarly/creative activities in interior design or related fields of study. Provides program, department, college, university, and professional service.
Degree Requirements:
Applicants must have a Masters degree or Ph.D. in Interior Design or a closely related field.
(i.e., Architecture, Interior Architecture, Environmental Design, or closely related field).
Experience Requirements:
Required, Rank of Assistant Professor:
A minimum of three years of full-time professional design practice experience is required.NCIDQcertification is required or must be completed within the first year of employment.A request for prior service credit of up to three years in a tenure-track/tenured position must be requested and approved before hiring. Demonstrated ability to conduct and publish scholarly research in peer-reviewed journals or creative scholarship equivalent.
Required, Rank of Associate Professor:
To be considered for the rank of Associate Professor, the applicant must meet the above qualifications.
Additionally, the applicant should demonstrate evidence as a teacher/scholar with excellence in teaching, research/creative authority, and an academic reputation in the field as appropriate for the position.

Preferred Requirements:
Prior interior design program leadership or other related leadership experience is preferred.
Experience with theCIDAaccreditation process and preparation of self-study reports is also preferred. Membership in at least one of the following professional organizations:IDEC,IIDA,ASID, orAIAis preferred.
