POSITION OBJECTIVE
The director of development will have primary responsibility for the solicitation of individual gifts for Case Western Reserve University from its natural constituency and beyond ($100,000 to $250,000). This position will be charged to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of 100 to 125 prospects for the School of Law. This position will require approximately 80 percent of their time be on direct face-to-face cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, with the expectation that they will be fully responsible for all individual major gift activity within a specific program, school, or university priority. The director will plan and coordinate visits and solicitations in conjunction with the senior director of development and the associate dean of development and alumni relations, and may be responsible for the implementation and management of special fundraising campaigns such as bequest giving, matching gift programs, special giving programs, scholarship campaigns and endowments for specific areas, or other special projects for the law school. Functioning as part of the school's development team, the director will be expected to work collegially, and in partnership, with senior development officials at the law school, central and other school-based colleagues. The director will assist in overseeing the school's national fundraising programs and will participate in planning and implementing fundraising campaigns outside of Cleveland. Extensive travel, both local and national, is required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plan strategies for the identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewarding of gifts for a portfolio of 100 to 125 major gifts prospects, with a giving potential in the range of $100,000 to $250,000. Develop and implement strategic cultivation and solicitation strategies with the responsibility of raising private support and the achievement of personal fundraising goals. Plan major gift strategies in conjunction with senior staff. Travel throughout the United States will be required. (50%)
- Build an on-going portfolio of major gift alumni and friends, volunteers and alumni leadership. (15%)
- Coordinate and participate in major gift solicitations by working closely with the senior director, associate dean and other university and school development officers. (10%)
Identify, qualify, recruit and train a core group of volunteers to assist with regional cultivation and solicitation activities. (10%)
NONESSENTIAL FUNCITONS
- Manage donor related events hosted the School of Law. Collaborate with other university departments and external donors to ensure seamless execution of on and off campus events. Follow up with potential major gift donors after events to solicit gifts. (5%)
- Assist with the staffing of alumni events, run screening programs and eventually provide staff support for regional volunteer leadership recruited to further the school¿s overall and development goals. (5%)
- Provide assistance with school priorities and/or law school campaign as determined by the senior development team. Work with senior development officials to develop and manage donor relations communications for the school of law; collaborate with staff on all annual fund materials to ensure consistent and effective communications to all donors. (5%)
