Schwab Asset Management (SAM) has over $1.4 trillion under management in mutual funds, ETFs, collective investment trusts, and separately managed accounts. Products managed include a wide variety of active and indexed equity, fixed income, and asset allocation strategies, as well as money market funds. SAM uses a consistent and disciplined approach to investing across all our products and seeks to develop innovative new products to meet the core investing needs of our clients.
SAM Fixed Income Trading is responsible for executing trades in fixed income instruments and related derivatives across multiple sectors and a range of maturities for all Charles Schwab Investment Management, Inc.-advised products including the Schwab mutual funds, Schwab ETFs, and separately managed account solutions. Trading strategies deployed by the team will vary based on investment strategy (i.e., index versus active), impetus for the trade, market conditions, and other factors. Collaboration is a critical part of the role, and it is expected that the position will develop relationships and work very closely across teams, including portfolio managers, credit research, investment risk, and other teams within SAM and Schwab.
Key Responsibilities:
Utilize pre-trade analytical tools to inform trade strategies for execution of fixed income securities generated by portfolio managers and/or the trade support team
Seek to obtain best execution on purchases and sales of fixed income securities
Contribute to the enhancement of existing and/or design of new trading processes to improve efficiency and scalability of the investment process
Perform and interpret post-trade transaction cost analyses using internally developed processes and output from third-party applications. Leverage the output to improve future outcomes.
Collaborate with and enhance relationships with trading counterparties of the firm
Contribute to the team’s collective expertise in fixed income market structure and trading technology developments, and use this knowledge to enhance both trade execution and broader investment processes
Create and support the development and presentation of trading related governance committee meeting materials
Collaborate with Business Unit Risk, Trade Operations, and others to resolve trade errors

What you have
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required
5-10 years of relevant buy-side and/or sell-side fixed income trading experience
Demonstrated expertise in trading of tax-exempt municipal securities required
Strong knowledge of fixed income fund management/SMA workflows and platforms (e.g., Aladdin, InvestorTools Perform, Vestmark, Tradeweb, MarketAxess, Bloomberg, etc.) required
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA or CFA designation desirable but not required
Experience trading taxable municipal securities, securitized assets, and corporates preferred
High degree of comfort and proficiency with technology, data manipulation, and workflow design; experience with coding a plus
Proficient understanding of market structure and regulatory requirements related to one or more fixed income asset classes
Understanding of transaction cost theory and analysis
Ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with sell-side broker-dealers and other key industry stakeholders
Demonstrated ownership, curiosity, resourcefulness, and proactivity. Able to prioritize and navigate in a fast-paced environment.
Disciplined self-starter who can utilize downtime on value-add projects and additional trade analysis
Strong verbal and written communication skills
An open mind to different perspectives and the confidence to challenge the status quo
In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.

CO Salary Range: USD $103,500 - $190,000 / Year
