The performance tools technician is responsible for the installation, training, and on-site support of NDS software solutions that are deployed at the rig via PLC controls and instrumentation systems.
While on rotation the technician will travel to rigs to survey equipment and determine the compatibility of our solutions and estimated timelines for installation. The technician will also work closely with the development team to troubleshoot specific issues that arise and when deemed necessary, debug code and/or machinery to provide a solution back to the rig. Individual must be a team player, capable of handling support calls in highly stressful situations. The position will require travel across all operating Nabors districts.

Install hardware and software required to deploy NDS services on drilling rigs
Survey rigs to understand equipment requirements for integration
Troubleshoot remotely and on location when system is down or malfunctioning
Train customers and other rig personnel how to properly use software to improve drilling performance
Train rig personnel how to maintain equipment to maximize up time
Contribute to the development of best practices/standards
Work directly with engineering to develop new products and resolve existing engineering issues
Document common troubleshooting problems
Rotational on-call point of escalation
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
6 years’ electrical / oil and gas industry experience
Basic understanding of Drilling operations
Basic understanding of electrical systems and wiring
Ability to read electrical schematics and ladder diagrams
Basic understanding of PLC’s
Basic understanding of VFDs and SCRs
Basic understanding of networking, electronics
Versed in windows software, a good understanding of networking, electronics
Familiarity with popular HMI systems
Basic understanding of TD systems
Must be able to work rotational shifts & travel (domestic/international)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience working on top drives
Experience with instrumentation systems
Experience with configuration and imaging of severs or virtual machines
Familiarity with popular fieldbus standards, especially Modbus and Profibus
Familiarity with EtherNet/IP, OPC, or other process control communications protocols
Experience troubleshooting fiber-optic communications
Experience with AB/Siemens/Omron technology
ESSENTIAL SKILLS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS
Frequent assent/decent of stairs/steps, especially at field locations.
Lifting/carry up to 50lbs occasionally, 20lbs frequently, and 5 to 10lbs daily.
Must be able to use/wear applicable personal protective equipment which may include but is not limited to safety-toed foot wear (with ankle height support), back support belt, hearing protection, safety eye-wear with side shields, gloves and hard hat.
May occasionally be required to wear approved/applicable respiratory protection equipment (respiratory protection guidelines would apply with regard to medical evaluation and fit testing of equipment).
Position is rotational and will require working on occasion overnights.
