The Global Risk & Compliance Organization is an independent risk management function, led by the Chief Risk Officer, with the objective of ensuring that American Express operates in a safe, sound, and fully compliant manner with all applicable regulatory expectations. Global Risk & Compliance creates and maintains the overall risk management framework, performs independent risk management assessments, and monitors applicable risks.

The VP, Enterprise Conduct & Culture Risk will be part of the Compliance organization and will report to the SVP, Deputy Chief Compliance Officer. The incumbent will lead a diverse team of high-performing individuals focused on the effective oversight of conduct risk identification, assessment, and mitigation, while maintaining alignment with the organization’s enterprise risk management framework. The ideal candidate will partner closely with first-line stakeholders and enterprise risk functions to provide independent oversight and challenge, ensuring that conduct risks are managed effectively and in compliance with regulatory expectations.
Key Responsibilities
Define and enhance processes for identifying and assessing conduct and culture risks including the independent review and challenge of the first line of defense’s risk assessment
Provide independent oversight of the first-line business activities to ensure conduct risks are appropriately identified, assessed, and managed
Evaluate the adequacy and effectiveness of conduct risk management practices, controls, and processes
Maintain a thorough understanding of regulatory requirements to guide conduct risk practices in line with applicable laws and standards
Perform periodic scheduled reviews and sample-based testing to evaluate the effectiveness of conduct risk management strategies and control mechanisms
Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders, fostering a strong risk culture and embedding risk culture considerations into decision-making
Monitor the resolution of conduct risk-related issues, including those identified by internal audit, regulatory reviews, or internal assessments
Escalate significant conduct risks or control weaknesses to senior management, ensuring timely and effective remediation
Qualifications
10 years of leadership experience in risk management, compliance, conduct risk management, sales operations or a similar role
Analytical skills, including a proven ability to translate complex and disparate information into a comprehensive and cohesive conclusion
Knowledge of enterprise risk management frameworks, regulatory environments, and industry best practices
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
Demonstrated history and ability to manage a team spread over geographies and with varying backgrounds
Proven ability to assess and challenge first-line risk practices independently
Strong understanding of operational and regulatory risks
Detail-oriented and proactive, with strong prioritization skills in a dynamic environment
High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity and accountability
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple priorities
Demonstrated ability to apply thought leadership and strategic thinking to deliver initiatives to advance a programs’ maturity and development
Ability to identify issues, escalate key findings, and advise on recommended solutions to correct issues and/or mitigate risks
Aptitude to communicate findings to colleagues, business partners, and senior leaders
Qualifications
Depending on factors such as business unit requirements, the nature of the position, cost, and application laws, American Express may provide visa sponsorship for certain positions
Salary Range: $200,000.00 to $275,000.00 annually bonus equity (if applicable) benefits
