Hanson is seeking candidates for our Railway Engineering Internship program in Kansas City, Missouri.
Our Railway Engineering discipline is made up of Civil Engineers who plan, design, and prepare construction documents for a variety of rail clients. Aspects of design include rail alignments and geometrics, grading plans, drainage and utility plans, pavement markings, construction details, erosion control and construction staging and phasing. Work is typically done in MicroStation OpenRoads. AutoCAD with Civil3D is used for select projects. The Railway Engineering discipline also supports construction management efforts in the field. Potential opportunities include monitoring contractor work activities, preparing reports and helping review contractor invoices.
Here are some examples of exciting Railway Engineering projects our interns have worked on:
Midwest Rail Yard. Helping prepare plan sheets in MicroStation, calculating quantities of various pay items to be used by contractor to bid the project, attending project meetings, and learning to write meeting minutes, and review work by others.
Pacific Northwest Alignment. Reviewing 100 miles of track to determine which side of the track is more feasible for new infrastructure to be placed. Collecting information in excel for review, analysis, and presentation to client.
BNSF Sandpoint, ID. Helping prepare typical details for railroad fiber optic conduit running along the tracks and across a new railroad bridge.
