About the role: As a Lead Structural Engineer, you will will lead with the customer, constructor, and Westinghouse partners to ensure that structural supports, foundations, and any modifications required to accommodate the new feedwater heaters are safe and compliant with nuclear regulations. You will engage daily with all parties and provide oversight of a small team of structural engineers at other Westinghouse locations to perform the technical tasks. This role is required to be at the Diablo Canyon site through Fall 2026/Spring 2027 at a minimum. You will report to the Director of Civil, Structural and Architectural Engineering. You will work in a hybrid scenario at the manager's discretion. No relocation will be provided. We can consider candidates authorized to work without sponsorship now and in the future.

Responsibilities: Technical Leadership

Design and Engineering Oversight: Ensure structural design and engineering follow the requirements, codes, and standards

Technical Authority: Act as subject matter expert (SME) for the civil/structural discipline'

Solution Development: Solve and challenge nuclear safety and efficiency issues Collaboration

Cross-Discipline Coordination: Collaborate with other discipline leads to ensure development across multiple fields

Interface Management: Manage interfaces between the structural discipline and others (e.g., process systems with mechanical equipment, or structural aspects affecting piping) Compliance and Regulatory Adherence

Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all engineering designs and activities comply with nuclear industry regulations and standards (e.g., ASME, NRC, and IAEA)

Safety Assurance: Guarantee that designs meet the stringent safety requirements of nuclear projects

Document Control: Maintain accurate records and documentation to demonstrate compliance with the purchase order requirements Project Management and Planning

Schedule and Budget Management: Contribute to project planning by providing accurate estimates for time and resources related to the structural discipline and ensure the engineering work is delivered within budget and schedule constraints

Resource Allocation: Identify staffing needs for the structural discipline and manage the allocation of resources, ensuring skills and expertise are available Risk Management

Risk Identification and Mitigation: Identify potential risks related to the structural discipline (e.g., failure modes in critical components, material integrity) and work with the project team to develop mitigation strategies

Safety and Hazard Analysis: Conduct or participate in safety assessments and hazard evaluations to ensure the project meets nuclear safety standards Quality Assurance

Quality Control: Ensure that the work within the structural discipline is performed according to the required quality standards, with attention to nuclear-specific materials, components, and procedures

Approval: Oversee the approval of drawings, specifications, and other deliverables within the discipline Partner Communication

Client and Partner Liaison: Act as the primary contact for technical issues related to the structural discipline, ensuring that client requirements are understood and integrated into the design

Regulatory and External Agencies Interaction: Represent the discipline in discussions with regulatory bodies, standards organizations, and external auditors or inspectors. Train

Staff Development: Mentor junior engineers within the structural discipline, promoting growth in technical expertise and ensuring adherence to industry best practices.

Technical Leadership Development: Ensure continuous improvement by identifying training needs and encouraging skill development within the team.

Qualifications:

10+ years of experience structural engineering and nuclear industry

Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent

Develop engineering deliverables like Changes and Item Equivalencies

Industry Standard Design Process (IP-ENG-001)

Standard Item Equivalency Process (NISP-EN-02)

Develop Engineering Processes using formal commercial nuclear processes

This role is required to be at the Diablo Canyon site through Fall 2026-Spring 2027 at a minimum.
