Compares identifying information and counts, weighs, or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify against bills of lading, invoices, orders or other records. Determines method of shipment. Utilizes knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates. Assembles wooden or cardboard containers or selects pre-assembled containers. Posts, weighs, determines shipping charges and affixes postage. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, rejects damaged items, and records shortages. Routes items to departments. May direct others in preparing outgoing and receiving incoming shipments. Assists in inventory and inventory control procedures.
