<h3>Occupational Description</h3><br>Speech-Language Pathologists apply principles and methods associated with the development and disorders of human communication skills and dysphagia. These principles and methods include screening, assessment, evaluation, treatment, prevention, consultation, and restorative modalities for speech, voice, language, language-based learning, hearing, swallowing, or other upper aerodigestive functions, for the purpose of improving quality of life by reducing impairments of body functions and structures, activity limitations, participation restrictions, and environmental barriers. Practice of speech-language pathology does not include the practice of medical diagnosis, medical treatment, or surgery.<br><h3>Licensure Requirements</h3><br>Applicants must: 1. Meet one of the following: A. Have a master’s degree or its equivalent in speech-language pathology from an academic program accredited by the Education Standards Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association; -OR- B. For applicants who graduated prior to September 1, 2007, present proof of a master’s degree, doctoral degree, or the equivalent of a master’s degree or doctoral degree in audiology from an academic program; -OR- C. For applicants who graduated on or after September 1, 2007, present proof of a doctoral degree or its equivalent in audiology; accredited by the Education Standards Board of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. 2. For applicants who are applying on the basis of endorsement by the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA)(301-296-5700) or equivalent and are in active practice, have official documentation of the Certificate of Clinical Competence submitted to the Licensure Unit; 3. Have official documentation of passing the PRAXIS II Examination in Audiology sent directly from the Educational Testing Service; 4. Have reached the age of majority; 5. Be either a citizen of the United States, an alien lawfully admitted into the United States who is eligible for a credential under the Uniform Credentialing Act, or a nonimmigrant who is lawfully present in the United States and who is eligible for a credential under the Uniform Credentialing Act.<br><h3>Fees</h3><br>Speech-Language Pathologist License Fee- $140.00 Temporary Speech-Language Pathologist License Fee: $140.00 Certification to supervise a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant- $25.00<br><h3>Renewal</h3><br>Renewal is required biennially by December 1 of even-numbered years. The renewal fee is $140.00 Twenty hours of continuing education are required every two years to qualify for renewal.
