Certificación: Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2)

Firefighter Type 2 certification qualifies a firefighter to fight wildfires, as well as work to prevent, suppress and mitigate wildfire situations. A firefighter must obtain an FFT2 certification, often called a red card, to be considered for any job related to fighting or preventing wildfires. Though you don't necessarily need a college degree to obtain certification, you will need to complete a series of focused training classes to apply for this advanced certificate.

The Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) serves on a hand crew, engine crew, or helitack crew, performing fire suppression and fuels management duties in adverse climate, fuel, and terrain conditions. The FFT2 has no supervisory responsibilities and is supervised by the Firefighter Type 1 (FFT1) or a Single Resource Boss [Crew Boss (CRWB), Heavy Equipment Boss (HEQB), Engine Boss (ENGB), Felling Boss (FELB), Firing Boss (FIRB), or Helicopter Manager (HMGB)]. The FFT2 works in the Operations functional area.
